It is the right of every country to remove persons deemed undesirable to reside in their territory. The primary reasons for deportation include criminal activities, certain types of misdemeanors, overstaying of visa or entry permits, and other practices which may be deemed unacceptable in those countries. The Government of Jamaica is obligated to accept Jamaicans who have been ordered deported.
As such, the Justice of the Peace Association partners with the Ministry of National Security to observe the processing of the Jamaican citizens upon their arrival in the country.
Objectives of Involuntary Returning Migrants Processing Committee (IRM)
- Partners with the Jamaica Constabulary Force to observe and assist with the processing of involuntary returning migrants to the country
- Encourages participation of JP’s in this process
- Facilitates observation and training of “new” JP’s in the IRM process
- Encourages effective and improved stakeholder relationships
- Empowers Justices to deliver effective and efficient service
